Rowan McNiven - Rowan is a Registered Midwife and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. She provides breastfeeding/chestfeeding support services covered by MSP for parents and babies to 6 weeks postpartum, at home and in clinic. (Referral required from midwife, physician, or nurse practitioner)

Dr.Emma Noble - Emma is a GP that practices out of The Midwives Collective. A wealth of knowledge and support. Ask your midwife or doctor or midwife for a referral for her support.

Victoria Breastfeeding Cafe - Victoria Breastfeeding Cafe is a fun, welcoming online community (facebook) for breastfeeding/chestfeeding parents and those who support them in the Victoria, BC area. Moderated by local La Leche League leaders this is a great peer to peer support community.

Dr. Jack Newman's Site - Breastfeeding articles, information and video clips by Dr. Jack Newman, a Toronto pediatrician.

La Leche League - Canada - This is the Canadian chapter of an internationally recognized organization whose mandate is, "To encourage, promote and provide mother-to-be breastfeeding support and educational opportunities as an important contribution to the health of children, families and society."  Contact them at 250.727.4384 to find a meeting happening near you.

Breastfeeding Matters - South Vancouver Island - A group of health-care professionals and interested individuals working since 1998 to protect, promote and support breastfeeding on Southern Vancouver Island.

Marty Layne - Learning how to massage your baby in the comfort of your own home can be a real help when you are a new parent. Two one hour private classes usually give parents enough information and instruction to feel comfortable and confident about their ability to massage their baby.  If more instruction time is needed, that can be arranged. Marty is a Certified Infant Massage Instructor.

Postpartum Depression

Being a mother is one of the hardest jobs anyone can do, and suffering from post-partum depression (PPD) can make the hard job feel impossible.  Many women suffer silently from PPD, it is very common, but entirely treatable.  This site is a great place to start if you think you may need help.  You can also contact your local Vancouver Island Health Authority health unit for support and information.
